About Expedition

K2 Expedition (8,611m/28,251ft) – Ultimate Climbing Adventure in Pakistan

Located on the border between China and Pakistan, K2 (8,611m/28,251ft) is the second tallest mountain in the world. Situated in the Karakoram Range, K2 spans both the Pakistani region of Baltistan in Gilgit-Baltistan and a Chinese-administered area of the Kashmir region in Xinjiang. Known by various names such as Chhogori, Qogir, Mount Godwin-Austen, and Ketu, K2 is often referred to as the "Savage Mountain" due to its extreme difficulty and high fatality rates among climbers.

Despite being one of the most challenging peaks, K2 draws mountaineers from around the globe. It has a success rate of 78% on the South side route, while climbers also attempt other routes, including the North, East, West Ridge, Southwest Pillar ("Magic Line"), South Face ("Polish Line"), Northwest Face, and Northwest Ridge. Notably, the East Face remains unclimbed due to its extreme difficulty. No one has ever summited K2 during the winter season.

Himalayan Adventures K2 Expedition

Every year, Himalayan Adventures organizes guided K2 expeditions during the summer months. This is the prime season for climbing, as weather, snow, temperature, and road conditions make the summer months more favorable for a successful summit. The first successful ascent of K2 was completed in 1954 by an Italian team led by Ardito Desio, with climbers Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni reaching the summit via the Abruzzi Spur route on July 31, 1954. Since then, K2’s combination of extreme weather, high altitude, and technical climbing has captured the imagination of adventurers.

Himalayan Adventures operates with a focus on safety and success. Our expedition groups are small, ensuring personalized attention, and all climbers are required to be well-prepared and experienced. To maximize safety, each climber is paired with an experienced climbing Sherpa guide. Our Sherpas and mountain guides are some of the best in the world, ensuring a safe and successful journey to the summit.

K2 Climbing Details

The K2 summit is located at 35°52′57″N and 76°30′48″E. The Advanced Base Camp (ABC) is typically set up at 5,305m/17,400ft, with climbers establishing four additional camps along the ascent. These include Camp I at 6,060m/19,881ft, Camp II at 6,700m/21,981ft, Camp III at 7,250m/23,786ft, and Camp IV at 7,700m/25,262ft. While Camp I and Camp II have limited space for tents, our team ensures comfort by managing group logistics efficiently. K2 remains much less crowded than Everest or Cho Oyu, offering a more exclusive experience.

Comprehensive Support for K2 Expedition

In collaboration with our expert outfitter, Himalayan Adventures offers full board support services for the K2 expedition. We provide a dedicated 1:1 climbing Sherpa guide for each climber, ensuring personalized attention throughout the journey. Our standard base-camp services can be upgraded to full board support, which is highly recommended for such a technical climb. K2 is renowned as one of the most difficult climbs among the 8,000-meter peaks, requiring exceptional skill, preparation, and expertise.

Our commitment to safety and high-altitude climbing success is unparalleled. With advanced UHF/VHF radio communication systems and well-established mountain rescue procedures, we prioritize our climbers' security. Our expeditions are designed by high-altitude exercise physiologists, ensuring optimal conditions for success. Additionally, we provide satellite phones for emergency contact and for staying connected with loved ones during the journey.
