About Expedition
Mount Pumori Expedition: A Thrilling Himalayan Challenge
Mount Pumori (7,161m / 23,494ft) is a stunning, pyramid-shaped peak located in the Mahalangur Himalayas, just 8 km west of Mount Everest on the Nepal-Tibet border. Known as the "Daughter of Everest," Pumori is a technically demanding climb, making it a popular training peak for those preparing for Everest. Due to its steep ice sections, exposed ridges, and challenging snow walls, climbers must have strong mountaineering experience and peak physical fitness. From the summit of Pumori, mountaineers are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, and the surrounding Himalayan giants.
Pumori Expedition Route & Climbing Strategy
The Pumori Expedition begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, followed by a 9-10 day trek through the Everest region, passing famous spots like Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, and Gorak Shep before reaching Pumori Base Camp (5,300m) near Kala Patthar. The South-East Ridge is the most commonly used climbing route, featuring three high-altitude camps:
π Camp 1 (5,700m) β Glacier terrain and steep ascents
π Camp 2 (6,200m) β A 40-60 degree climb up a snow wall
π Camp 3 (6,480m) β A technical section with ice walls and crevasses
From Camp 3, climbers navigate glacier crevasses and steep ice slopes before making the final push up the Pumori cliff to the summit. The climb requires technical proficiency in using fixed ropes, crampons, and ice axes, making it best suited for experienced mountaineers.
Best Season & Expedition Support
The best time to climb Pumori is in spring (April-May), when the weather is stable, visibility is clear, and avalanche risks are lower. Every year, Pioneer Adventure organizes fully guided Pumori expeditions, providing climbing permits, logistics, and experienced Sherpa guides to ensure a safe and successful ascent. If you're looking for a challenging and rewarding high-altitude adventure, Mt. Pumori offers an unforgettable Himalayan experience.
