About Expedition

Mt. Kailash Tour Via Kerung

Mount Kailash is a majestic and revered peak in the western Tibetan Autonomous Region of China, located near the sources of four major rivers: the Indus, Brahmaputra, Sutlej, and Karnali. Standing at an elevation of 6,638 meters (21,778 feet), this awe-inspiring mountain is considered one of the holiest sites in the world.

For Hindus, Mount Kailash is the sacred home of Lord Shiva, the god of destruction and transformation. Buddhists believe it is the abode of Demchok, a deity representing supreme bliss. In Jainism, Mount Kailash is the place where Lord Rishabhadeva, the first Tirthankara, achieved enlightenment. For followers of the Bon religion, indigenous to Tibet, the mountain is seen as the center of the universe.

Despite its spiritual importance, Mount Kailash has never been climbed. Climbing the sacred peak is considered disrespectful, and it remains untouched by human exploration. Instead, pilgrims undertake the "Kora," a sacred circumambulation of the mountain, which spans approximately 52 kilometers (32 miles). This ritual walk is deeply significant, with many completing it to seek spiritual purification, atonement for past deeds, or to receive blessings.

The combination of Mount Kailash’s remote location, harsh climate, and profound religious meaning makes it a powerful symbol of reverence, mystery, and awe. For centuries, it has captured the imagination of travelers, spiritual seekers, and adventurers alike, remaining an enduring and untouchable icon in the hearts of millions.
